SANParks is looking for young South Africans who need jobs to join their Environmental Monitor Program. This program will run from 2025 to 2026 and offers basic training to help protect nature in our national parks. If you don’t have work right now you can apply to become part of this project. The program is part of the government’s plan to create more jobs and teach useful skills to young people. You’ll learn how to watch over the environment and help keep our parks safe.
Overview Of The Program
Agulhas National Park is looking for 3 people to work in their Biodiversity and Social Projects team. These are temporary jobs that will end on March 31 2026. The jobs are part of the Environmental Monitor Programme. You will work under a Section Ranger or Ranger Sergeant. The pay is R208 per day following EPWP payment rules. These positions are funded through the EPWP program.
Eligibility Criteria
- Grade 12 / NCV Level 4 (Std 10)
- Interest in working in a nature conservation environment
- Good communication skills
- Willingness to work flexible hours (weekends/after hours)
- Medically fit; will undergo a medical fitness exam
- Understanding of basic Health & Safety principles
- No criminal record (SAPS verification applies)
- Added advantages: Computer literacy; Basic Firefighting training
- Preference: Ages 18–35
Job Responsibilities
- Assist with tools, equipment, vehicles, herbicides, stock control and asset management
- Handle in-field admin (timesheets, H&S checklists, logbooks, reports)
- Monitor and record resource management data
- Support conflict handling with contractors; provide motivation and assistance
- Assist with fire management
- Fence integrity monitoring, basic maintenance and camp clearing
- Ecological monitoring, restoration, invasive alien clearing
- Waste-management reporting and programme support
- Participate in community and environmental awareness activities
- Assist with other conservation duties and ad-hoc tasks as needed
